...midnight cupcakes

Monday was a day that just seemed to keep going on and in and on.
I've just gotten finished with my final job for today, 30 purple glittery cupcakes in a mix of vanilla and chocolate.
Yum!

Down down down

What a truly depressing week that was...

Still haven't made it back to roller derby training due to this stupid knee...and that's dragged me lower than I've been in a very long time.

I got to a point where I was seriously considering jacking it in. The league is getting exciting here in Belfast, minimum testing continues and now we have heard there will be an extra practice during the week for those who have passed. That one thing just sent my brain into meltdown...I'm behind everyone, I won't be able to practice with the girls and I'll never ever catch up...
I still feel like that.
But I'm doing my best to ignore the niggling (overwhelming actually) doubts.

Today I managed to walk to work. Yes my knee is twingey, but I'm tired of not being able to walk...I LIKE walking. And if I can walk I can skate...gently at least.
So the plan for this week is outdoor skating and some gym seasons!

The last week has brought me some smiles mind you.
Three wonderful books all if which I HIGHLY recommend:
Naughty Needles
Anticraft
DomiKNITrix

And I completed this cute project based on the Nyan cat ;)

I've also been kitten sitting for friends. 8week old Penny and Hilts have brought the laughs

A wee thought for today

Happy father's day wishes go out to my Dad today.

He is the most amazing, strong, intelligent person I know.

If I ever manage to be even a quarter of the person he is I'll be a lucky and happy girl.

Love you Dad

Off skates for a bit

On Sunday our coach, the delectable Gutter Snipe, started ticking off our min skills at training. Awesome! At last! Stuff I can (mostly, sort of, sometimes) do!

Not so awesome came after that...I had a rather nasty fall and spent the rest of Sunday and my working day on Monday limping on an exquisitely painful knee.
One trip to the doctor later and I have torn ligaments and am off skates for a couple of weeks.

And off work too.

I miss skating already and I'm BORED!

So lots of crafting has been happening...

First up, my asylum chic shrug...

A pretty victoriana lace and ribbed neck warmer with vintage buttons :

And this sculpty skull cameo brooch

I've also been enjoying my new false lashes...

Roll on healed knee and being back on my feet though! Two days in and I'm going a bit stir crazy at home!

Proof of crazies is this road warrior mask I've just knitted o.O

SEX

Today has started well with a trip to the wool shop near my work.

Huge sign in the window advertised a 'massive wool sale' and the didn't disappoint, 25% off all their yarns :D

So a mega Stash Enrichment eXpedition was had and now there is more steampunk-postapocalyptic-asylum-chic (might have to trade mark that description!) knitting on my immediate horizon.

And a couple of hours after buying...my first knit from the new stash : a victoriana collarette

Knit knit knit

After my hectic weekend at the Blood and Thunder bootcamp, I've been relaxing this week with a couple of knitting projects.

First up was the goth girl jumper from the Pretty in Punk pattern book...loose soft mesh body with pleanty of deliberate dropped stitches and ladders for a distressed asylum-chic style

Today I've gone a bit rockabilly. This little clutch bag has an oversized houndstooth design, made up in clashing red and pink yarns. Again it's from Pretty in Punk!

It just needs some big buttons!

Derby weekend

Oh my, what an amazing weekend!

The fun started on Friday night when the girls picked me up to head to Dublin...this began the first of many games of kit bag tetris to make the bags of four derby loving girls fit into the boot of a not huge car. I blame the kit, we needed everything in the world! Luxury items had been banned.

Our hostel was good and bad. Basic but breakfast was included. Snoring guy in the room, but we retaliated by talking derby crap in the morning when he was sleeping. And cheap as chips which was good!

Saturday morning registration and introductions went smoothly, and so the training sessions began!
From running up grassy slopes in my skates to doing jam timer for the scrimmaging (which has given me notions if reffing) the day FLEW in!
Afterwards we had a well deserved Chinese

While our gear aired on the hostel balcony

The only downside to the day was being told to bring grippy wheels when the surface wasn't all that skippy in the day.
Trixie wisely changed her wheels in Saturday night to a harder set

So many great coaches, my favourites were smarty pants and violent bob...teflon Donna did a great off skates class on Sunday, but her toe stop derby session was too much for me! My feet bled after that one!

Scrimmaging on Sunday rocked, even if I did end up in the penalty box for cutting the track, booooo!

The skating was great, I've learnt so much, and can't wait to get to training on Friday

Derby saved my soul ;)
And motto for the day.....? Kill the Jammer ;)
